Consumer Energy Electric and Gas

A principal subsidiary of the Michigan-based CMS Energy Corporation, Consumer Energy is one of the largest utility providers in the state, and has been named one of the top utilities in the nation (Business Facilities, 2021) for its “its triple bottom-line commitment to support people, the planet and prosperity with an increased focus on diversity, clean energy and energy efficiency.”

Strategic business support and services include:

  • Custom-tailored service and rates to suit enterprise needs, with categories including small-to-medium-sized businesses, commercial and industrial businesses, multifamily property management, and the recently introduced innovative economic development rate for large businesses with 35 MW or more of new electric load, available to both new and expanding operations.
  • Business development support including free market analytics and assessments as well as new construction information.
  • Support for energy efficiency including free energy assessments (which automatically provide $500 in energy-saving products); incentives and rebates on the purchase of energy-efficient equipment; and renewable energy programs.

As Consumer Energy transitions toward the use of clean, renewable energy, minimizing its carbon footprint, the company also continues to expand investment and impact in local communities like Shiawassee County. Recently, a $150,000 Consumer Energy Foundation grant helped to redevelop a former Owasso middle school into an artists’ community.
