JBS United, a global leader in animal health and nutrition providing research-based products worldwide to owners and producers of various animal species, is growing its Michigan distribution operations in Corunna. The company, which is headquartered in Sheridan, Indiana, is leasing approximately 13,000 square feet of space in the former Strawsine building, located at 503 South Shiawassee Street. The facility will be utilized to warehouse and ship animal (predominantly cattle & swine) feed to customers throughout the state. The deal was brokered by Woodworth Commercial of Owosso. “We are excited to grow into this new building, which will serve as our distribution hub for the State of Michigan. It is really a great location, right in the center of both our current and potential future customer base,” said John Nurmikko, Manager, Feed Additives & Forage Solutions for JBS United. “Our future hope is to be able to expand our business beyond distribution, which would ultimately create more jobs and investment,” Nurmikko added. The I-69 International Trade Corridor recently honored JBS United with a Certificate of Recognition, which is focused on supporting multi-modal businesses that are growing in the region. As part of the company’s global supply chain, they move products via truck, rail and ship. “Thanks to the I-69 International Trade Corridor for this award. We definitely view I-69 and all the transportation resources here as critically important in helping us bring in and deliver our products throughout the region,” said Nurmikko. “Corunna is pleased to welcome JBS United to the community. They are helping to fill vacant space in one of our largest industrial buildings, and providing some jobs and as well as spending $ here, which is benefiting the local economy. We wish them the best,” said Corunna City Manager Joe Sawyer. “This is another exciting success story, as we work hard to cultivate the agribusiness sector in Shiawassee County, the I-69 International Trade Corridor, and the I-69 Thumb Region. We feel our region has a lot of assets to offer this industry, and are very thankful for JBS United’s commitment to be here and look forward to their continued growth into the future,” said Justin Horvath, President/CEO of the Shiawassee Economic Development Partnership, which provided project assistance.
