On Wednesday January 17th, representatives of the Shiawassee Economic Development Partnership (SEDP) and Huntington Bank surprised Davis Cartage President Glen Merkel with the announcement that the company was the recipient of this year’s Project of the Year award. The award is given annually to a new or expanding business in Shiawassee County that creates a significant positive impact on the local economy.

In 2023, Davis Cartage began work to expand their Chestnut St facility in Owosso Charter Township by an additional 60,000 square feet, bringing the facility to 160,000 square feet in total. This was the largest new building project that took place in the county in 2023. The company’s capital investment in the project is $2.7M.

“Davis Cartage has long been a leader in the Shiawassee County business community,” said Justin Horvath, President/CEO of the Shiawassee Economic Development Partnership. “We are grateful for their long-standing commitment to investing in Shiawassee County.”

Davis Cartage was selected by representatives of SEDP and the award sponsor, Huntington Bank. A formal presentation of the award will be made at SEDP’s Annual Investor Meeting on January 23rd.
