January 26, 2024

On Tuesday, the Shiawassee Economic Development Partnership hosted their annual meeting with over 70 community stakeholders attending in person or through a livestream. The event was sponsored by Consumers Energy and took place at Shiawassee Health & Wellness in Owosso. The program kicked off with a tour of the facility to showcase the DJ Root Recycling Center and its role in the community.

The chair of the SEDP Board of Directors, Bryan Marks, provided an overview of key projects and initiatives for 2023. Following these highlights, the organization’s Project of the Year was awarded to the Davis Cartage Company for their $2.7 million investment in adding 60,000 square feet of additional space to their industrial building in Owosso Charter Township. The award was presented by Craig Bishop of Huntington Bank, the award sponsor.

In addition to presenting Project of the Year, the organization also made special recognition of the Shiawassee Regional Educational Service District for their work in creating the College & Career Readiness Center. The new vocational education center will provide graduates within demand skills for years to come, while also investing in rehabilitating an underutilized school building.

SEDP President/CEO Justin Horvath provided those in attendance with a look ahead to 2024 before introducing the event’s keynote speaker, CEO of the Michigan Economic Development Corporation Quinten Messer who discussed MEDC’s priorities in growing Michigan’s economy and how the organization has supported Shiawassee County.
