SEDP, Shiawassee RESD, and Mid-Michigan MiSTEM Partner to Showcase Manufacturing Careers to Local Students October 19, 2023 Over the next decade, 4 million manufacturing jobs will need to be filled in the US. To raise awareness, the first Friday in October is National Manufacturing Day. With assistance from SEDP, Mid-Michigan MiSTEM, and the Shiawassee RESD, students from across Shiawassee County gathered to learn about careers in modern manufacturing, located in our region. Allied Motion, CIE Newcor, Great Lakes Family of Companies, Mid-West Bus and Tri-Mer opened their doors, allowing students to tour facilities, talk to people actually working in manufacturing and engineering careers, participate in safety lessons, and even operate equipment. “We are thankful that so many businesses opened their doors to students for Manufacturing Day 2023. Hopefully, this is a first step to introducing students to opportunities with local manufacturing companies,” said Lory Thayer, Mid-Michigan MiSTEM Region Director. “Right now in our county, there are hundreds of available jobs in the manufacturing sector. It is exciting to see our school districts and the Shiawassee RESD working so hard to introduce students to opportunities to stay and build careers in our community,” said Justin Horvath, Shiawassee Economic Development Partnership (SEDP) President/CEO. Manufacturing can offer high-paying opportunities working with cutting-edge technology, all while staying within Shiawassee County.
