Vernon Township & City of Durand to Hold Joint Meeting on April 19th to Discuss Potential Large Site Development

April 13, 2022

The Vernon Township Board & Durand City Council will each have a public meeting on April 19th at 6:30pm at the Durand Middle School cafeteria. The agenda will be to provide the governmental bodies and interested community members with information on opportunities associated with/potential impact of development on a large-scale site generally located within the boundaries of Durand Rd, Goodall Rd, Brown Rd and Lansing Rd.

The meeting is being held in response to an increase in interest on the property from the Michigan Economic Development Corporation and Detroit Regional Partnership, which are receiving requests for large-acreage sites from both national and international business attraction prospects. It is important to note that this meeting is not in response to any specific prospect and is not related to Project Tim. Rather the goal is to encourage a proactive community planning process (including what is wanted/not wanted) to be better prepared for potential business projects.

There will be speakers from the Shiawassee Economic Development Partnership, Michigan Economic Development Corporation, Detroit Regional Partnership and MichAuto, who are expected to cover a variety of topics including:

  • Potential businesses/industries
  • Economic impact
  • Workforce
  • Housing
  • Public safety
  • Utilities
  • Transportation
  • Environmental impact
  • Governmental control/master planning/zoning/permitting
  • Incentives
  • Community identity

For those individuals who cannot attend but would like to learn more/ask questions, there will be information available at www.sedpweb.org after the meeting.
