SEDP Manufacturers Mixer - Laingsburg’s Red Thunder Robotics Facility Visit and Demonstrations

We are excited to announce that SEDP is planning a Manufacturers Mixer. Come join us for a truly unique experience! Laingsburg High School’s competitive robotics team, Red Thunder Robotics #7166, will be hosting our March mixer.  Not only will you have an opportunity to network with other local business professionals, but you will also have a chance to get up close and personal with three robots which have been designed, built, and programmed by high school students. 

FIRST robotics pairs students with business professionals in a mentor guided setting.  High school teams have six weeks to learn the game challenge and build a robot to successfully work on a 3-robot alliance to score more points than their opponents.  Each Michigan team is guaranteed two district events.  Teams which rank high enough are invited to the Michigan State Championship with the opportunity to advance to the FIRST World Championship!

Red Thunder Robotics operates like a small business with operations, project management, design, software, social/digital media, videography/photography, safety, and fabrication departments. Students leave Red Thunder Robotics with skills in CNC and lathe millwork, 3-D modeling, Java programming, public speaking, time management, problem-solving, resiliency, and more.

Following the robot demonstrations, attendees are encouraged to “get behind the sticks” and drive the robots, working together to achieve the most possible points in 2 minutes.  Attendees will also get a backstage tour of the team’s workshop, its army of 3D printers, as well as its machining lab.
